Love Unmasked | Romans 12:9–21
September 29, 2026

Real love wears no mask. We spend our lives searching for love in relationships, in performance, and in feelings that fade, but as believers we've already found real love, fully unmasked, in Christ. In Romans 12:9–21, Paul says "let love be sincere," which in the Greek reads closer to unmasked. We don't go looking for real love. We live from it, and we get to reveal it to the world.
Unmasked love is committed to community (vv. 9–13). Paul tells us to recoil from evil, cling to good, and outdo one another in honor, zeal, prayer, and hospitality. A mask builds yourself up. Real love hands the honor to someone else, just as Jesus did.
Unmasked love cares for its enemies (vv. 14–20). We bless those who persecute us, rejoice and mourn with people where they are, refuse pride, and leave vengeance to God. The same God who will settle every account already settled ours at the cross.
Unmasked love conquers evil (v. 21). Evil isn't beaten by matching its energy. It's beaten the way Jesus beat it: by good that outlasts it.
